Lots of horses and plenty of action at Rockingham this weekend.  It is not only a great venue but boasts some really grown up cross country tracks and the main arena has a proper international feel to it.  Yet it still retains an old fashioned charm with the organising team being particularly helpful and they have nice touches like posting hard copy car passes out to those that request them.

Tom’s weekend kicked off with some great novice placings and a win. Star of Saturday was Chatsworth Diamond ( Bill) who proved that his step up to the CI2*S at Chatsworth last weekend has left him full of confidence around a strong novice track and he won his section adding nothing to his dressage score of 28.5. Fellow Chatsworth debutante Brookfield Benjamin Bounce (Bounce) also proved his capabilities with a runner up slot in his section adding just 1.2 time to his 23 dressage.  The greys really were on fire! Cassiana de Riverland ( Cassie) was batting for the girls and she backed up her CI 2*S run with a flashy 22 on the flat, added a rail and still finished in 4th spot after a classy cross country round.

Bob Chaplin ( Bob) has been beautifully produced by Paul Tapner and is owned by the late Strike Smartly’s ( Paddy) owners, Fred and Penny Barker.  Paddy is still very much missed but hopefully Bob will fly the flag for the future and his 29 dressage and double clear in the ON was a lovely way to start the partnership.

Three advanced horses for Sunday with Braveheart B ( Dougie) heading the line up in hotly contested OI sections with a 28 and a double clear for 5th.  Dreamaway ( Dreamer) scored a 29 before rolling a pole so cruised cross country for a smooth clear and gutsy little trier, CHF Cooliser,( Eliza) made the top 10 in her section with a 30 and double clear.

The last few weeks really have been relentless with Badminton, Aston le Walls, Chatsworth, Howick and Rockingham. Now its back to three day mode and Tom has five horses at Houghton before he heads over to Ireland for Tattersalls the following week.
