Whilst most riders targeted Chatsworth for the ERM CIC 3 star Tom used it as a great way to bring on his up and coming team of youngsters and to ride a couple of Zara Tindall’s advanced horses at the same time.
Three lovely horses went exceptionally well in the CIC one star with Barbara and Ken Cooper’s Braveheart B ( Dougie) the best of them, finishing on his great dressage score of 28 for 3rd place. Stablemate Dreamaway ( Dreamer) is a more recent addition to Tom’s team and also owned by the Coopers and he also had a great debut after just three novice runs with Tom to finish inside the top 10 with just a single rail added to his dressage of 30.
Ex racehorse Dream Big has a 100% clear cross country record with Tom so it was unlike her to pick up a 20 but she had showjumped clear which can sometimes be her weaker point. The thoroughbreds tend to take a little longer to mature into event horses but Dreamy is going to be one for the future for sure.
Class Affair is possibly the best of Zara’s up and coming advanced horses and Tom had a great ride round the advanced to finish runner up with a double clear and just 6 time cross country to add to a 33 dressage. Watkins is just a tad more complicated but a 36, 8 to add in the showjumping and an assured clear cross country is good enough to keep him ticking over which is what Zara wants. There is no better pilot on another persons ride than Tom which is why he is getting a reputation as the go to man for pregnant event riders!
And as the ERM class waits until Sunday afternoon to showjump Tom was winging his way home…not such a bad plan at all!
