The end of the season for Tom and his team but the final outing was pretty impressive to say the least!
Tom took 4 of his up and coming horses down to Bicton for the CIC 2 star which was hugely popular at the end of the season and had huge entries. Bicton had stepped in to replace Aldon which is where we have traditionally shivered at the end of every year and they did a very good job.
The dressage threw up a bit of a surprise when Dream Big ( Dreamy) scored a very credible 30.4 which was not quite as smart as Dreamaway’s ( Dreamer) 29.8 but was good enough to beat Braveheart B (Dougie) on 31.3 and even flashy The Magician ( Mars) who was on a 31.6. Go the thoroughbred girl!
The showjumping at Bicton is always pretty grown up and this year was no exception. Dreamy, having excelled herself in the dressage, then had an unusual rail to add 4 to her score and Dreamer then did the same which meant that Dougie and Mars slipped ahead with clear rounds. The cross country was a fair test with a tight enough time, just 10 of the 80 odd starters made it and unsurprisingly two of those were Tom’s horses! Mars added nothing to his dressage to finish on the podium in 3rd, Dougie picked up just 2.4 for 6th, Dreamy zipped inside the time as she does for 8th and Dreamer rounded out the top 12 with just 2.8.
4 horses inside the top 12 is quite some achievement and is testament to Tom’s ability as well as his team and the quality of the young horses he has coming up through the ranks. 2018 has been a fantastic year with the Team Gold Medal at WEG an undoubted highlight but its pretty cool to know you have a strong foundation behind that!
